Febrile Antigen reagents for Widal, Weil-Felix and Wright tests.
Antibodies are produced in response to an infection by a pathogenic micro-organism. These reagents are used to detect such antibodies and can also be used to measure a rise or fall in antibody titre, as the infection progresses. Biotec bacterial antigen suspensions, or Febrile Antigens, are standardised suspensions of S-phase killed bacteria which have been stained to improve the reading of the agglutination reaction. Blue stained antigen are specific to somatic ‘O’ antigens, whilst red stained antigens are specific to flagella ‘H’ antigens.
These reagents can be used with two methods. Firstly the rapid slide titration method, to identify an approximate titre for the test serum and secondly, the tube agglutination method to verify results found by the slide method.
